RE: The Southern CR
At some point the bike either overheated or did not have enough lubrication.... Please run GOOD oil and do not run that ridiculous mixtures some will tell you... 32:1 is what you want to run.... i would not run anything less (less oil).....

RE: The Southern CR
Chapter 3: Returning from Holiday >Sad

I have taken some time off the project and got distracted with a kickass air-cannon and the HP2 Jamboree. So back to work...

Ok, so I have taken apart what I can on the motor. To split the case, I need 2 special tools, one of which I can make, the other will have to be bought. I am looking for a reason not to open it now. My big question:

Can I weld the broken casing and install new seals on the gear shaft&final drive shaft without splitting the case? Is it necessary to get eyes on the gears and other stuff inside?

I am thinking of just making a cap and welding it over the exposed hole. The clutch cam and pushrod meet one another here, so I cant interfere with the shaft holes.

Clutch still looks good and it is not a big job to replace if it turns out to be fooked.

Last night I started to put a couple of things back together...

... but I cant do much more until I have the answers to my burning questions (and I am still waiting for the new piston and rings).

RE: The Southern CR
I would def open it, just one good reason, to replace the main bearings.... They are cheap and worth replacing.... You only need to make one tool, I quickly made one up to open a cr years ago and still use it.... When you start to pull on the crank side, she will start to come apart.... No need for 2 tools... CR500 I have rebuild a lot, they dont come apart that difficult, some comes apart without tools, just n rubber hammer.....
